YOUR PORTRAIT SESSION

Capturing something of the essence of a human being - this is the true magic of portrait photography, and the purpose of a portrait session.

You'll find your session relaxed, informal, enjoyable. We'll use lighting, backgrounds, posing to make you look your best. But above all we want you to be YOU.

GROUPINGS   Your portrait can be of one person, a couple, a family or any other group. If you sit for a family portrait, we can at the same session create individual portraits, or portraits of the children, or of your parents, or...

CLOTHING TO WEAR   We'll talk about it before your session, but here are some guidelines: Avoid geometric patterns, ie large checks, stripes, etc. Avoid white or near-white tops (unless you're a bride or we're doing a high-key all-white photo). Avoid loud bright colours in favour of subdued colours such a navy, black, burgundy. In groups (more than one person) keep in mind how the different clothes will look together; consider a co-ordinated approach. In general, long sleeves photograph better than short sleeves, especially in an individual portrait.

COLOUR OR BLACK AND WHITE?   It's your choice - we do both. We may have a preference for one or the other for a particular subject - and so may you. We'll talk about it before your session.

WHERE   Your session can be at our studio, in your home, or at some other location special to you, indoors or out. This is something else we will discuss and decide before the session.

PRE-SESSION CONSULTATION   Before your session, we will discuss a checklist of items, including any ideas you may have for the look you want in the portrait, location and background, colour vs. black and white, clothing to be worn, etc.
